Retro Metal Buttons anyone?

I'm on the hunt for three metal buttons as close to this one in style as possible. If I can't find any, I'll just list the coat as it is but would love to find some replacements if possible. The coat arrived with just one button and there should be three.

It's a metal button which isn't quite square and isn't round either. I guess round buttons or square buttons would suffice so long as they're this size in diameter: 1.4" (3cm).

In fact, the button is what I love most about this coat! It's made from rabbit fur and although the fur is super-soft and the lining is soft too, the skin is very cardboard-like or stiff. Has anyone come across that before with fur coats? I've included a couple of photos of the edges of the coat and you can see the skin part.

I digress! I'm searching now for three metal buttons in a retro style of the size noted above. If you have anything that you think might suit this coat, please let me know. :) Also, if you know anything about the stiffness of fur coats, I'm all ears.

Thanks guys! :)

What a fab coat, and that button is amazing!

I can't help you with the buttons I'm afraid, but I'm sure someone else will be able to!

As for the cardboardy hide, I'd assume its dried out with age (and possibly unsuitable storage) in the same way leather/suede does. Again, I'm unable to help you there either!

Not much use am I?! :BAGUSE:

Well at least you love the coat and button. I think you've explained that perfectly. 'Dried-out' is probably what's happened. It doesn't have any nasty odours which is something I guess.

I've found 3 large vintage buttons on Etsy (see my faves) but I'm not sure the style will go with the coat. I'll keep looking. Thanks for your reply. :)

They look gorgeous! Its funny I never thought to look at people's favourites on Etsy - I'm still learning my way round!

I've got a 50s black velvet evening coat that only needs one button at the neck, but can I find one suitable? Nope! :powwows:

Thanks for reminding me to resume my search!

Do you think those 30's buttons would work with this fur coat? They're the perfect size.

BTW! If I can find replacements you can have this button from the fur coat - if it's the right look and size for your evening coat. :)

Oh no! You're so kind to offer, but you should keep that fantastic button. Its so unusual and distinctive I'd be tempted to convert it into a brooch :)

Incidentally, the evening coat button hole is 1¼ inches across and I've no idea what kind of button was there originally. I'm looking for something a bit glam and possibly sparkly that would be appropriate for the 50s. Black is hard to match, so possibly gold or silver (or diamanté!)

My friend gave me an amazing hand made glass button but its actually way too big!

Ooops. Just call me the 'thread hijacker'! ;)

Sarah - I'm serious! If I can find replacement buttons you can have this one. Just spreading the love! I'd love to see it made into a brooch. That's so cool. It would only end up in my box of buttons.

Beth, you really crack me up! :hysterical:

I'll definitely bring the coat, and a mask to hide behind for the photos!

Amanda - that's a very kind offer. Looks like the Christmas spirit has already hit the forum! :santa3: :christmastree:
