Brocade circle skirt--new question...
Full circle skirt; seams are not pinked but pressed open and then turned under and sewed (like a little hem) on each side.
It's long, too--32 1/2".
Is this very nicely homesewn 50s, or newer?

Thanks so much for the date confirmation, everyone--that's great news!
I got this skirt for myself several years ago just because it was a pretty circle skirt, didn't bother to pin down the date and never found an
occasion to wear it. I'm finally accepting that my waist is never going to be that small again, sigh...
Nice to finally know what decade it's from!
(And Louise--the zipper is metal; with "SLIDE" stamped on the pull).

OK, so now I'm obsessing instead of just prepping the listing...
But the (vaguely iridescent dark blue metal) hook and eye on the skirt is so unusual I started googling the mark stamped on it ("Deponirt") wildly
and am wondering if anyone may have encountered it before?
Though the hook side is stamped "Trademark", I can't find anything on the name at the USPTO site, but I've come up with lots of vintage metal
buttons and also metal match safes stamped in the same font (such as eBay listings 280401614480, 220458015478, and 260500896555). The buttons often
have "P B & Co" stamped on them as well, and I haven't been able to find anything on that company either.
Probably won't add any valuable info (especially since something like a hook & eye can always have been replaced...) I'm just curious about this
skirt, since it appears home- or custom-sewn and non-commercial garments are always a bit of a mystery!
Anyone? Or should I just let it go already?

I don't know about those companies and have enough trouble with dating some zippers for that fact. I do know that your skirt looks original to the
mid-century, the fabric and all. Honestly with many of the circle skirts that I get in my inventory, guess what is the most common thing that is
missing??...the hook and eye. Even if you do put in all of this time finding out its origin and dating, it may not offer you any pertinant information
about this skirt. Personally I would let it go, BUT if you like a good mystery and enjoy sleuthing, then by all means continue. The information you
learn about these button and hook manufacturers may be beneficial to us all

Thanks for sharing your perspective, Amber (and it's very sensible, indeed!)
I know that anything I find won't necessarily "add up" to anything. But the sleuthing can be so darn addictive...
And I have no idea where one researches old button/hook manufacturers--wouldn't it be nice to have a resource for that?
