OLD VINTAGE CLOTHING LABEL THREAD--DO NOT USE! ~ July 2007 ~
The Vintage Fashion Guild is constantly updating the Label Resource, and we welcome contributions. If you have labels to contribute, we ask that you
keep in mind a few guidelines.
First, please check the Resource to insure that your label is not already included.
If your label is NOT shown there, and you feel it should be, then post an image of the label onto this thread, together with details of
(1) date of garment
(2) type of garment
(3) any information you have about the designer/label.
Try to get a clear, straight shot of the label. Please crop it to show just the label, and resize it to 200 pixils across.
Also, because of the change of the label sizes when changing to the new format, some of the old labels are grainy and hard to read. If you have one of
the labels that is in this condition, we welcome your replacement label.
By posting your label image here, you are giving your copyright assignment for the image to go onto the Label Resource. You will be credited for your
contribution.
We are always looking for new information about any of the labels on the resource. Please post here or contact me if you have information you wish to
contribute!
Concerning Use of the Label Resource
Welcome to the Vintage Fashion Guild's Label Resource. Here you'll find a large collection of vintage label images, complete with biographies and
company histories for each label.
We are working hard to make sure this Resource is as comprehensive as possible. It is a work in progress;its growth depends upon contributions of
labels, and any ommissions are due to the fact that examples of many designers' work are scarce. We welcome contributions of labels that are not
represented on the Resource.
This Resource is to be used only as an educational tool, and is not intended as a value guide. Inclusion of a label in the resource is not an
indication of value, as garments vary greatly in value depending on many factors. Another point that needs to be considered by users is that some
companies used the same label for many years, and just because the garment used on the label resource is a certain date, it does not mean that all
garments with the same label are the same date.
The labels included have been carefully researched, we have worked hard to insure that all information is correct. If a mistake should be found, we
would greatly appreciate access to your information so the Resource can be corrected.
We hope you find the Vintage Fashion Guild's Label Resource useful. We provide the Resource at no cost to the vintage community, and we are pleased
when people are able to use it. We do ask that if you use the resource or copy parts of it on another site (such as eBay) that you credit VFG in the
following way: "Information courtesy of The VintageFashionGuild Label Resource" or "Information courtesy of Contributor'sName/the
VintageFashionGuild Label Resource.
Please note that the author of the bio owns the copyright to the work, and that the copyright is assigned to the VFG. In order to be in compliance
with eBay's copyright policy, and the law, you must credit all copyrighted work.

Ironically...not such a distinctive style as no info to be found
Only Gloria I could find was a modern author or a character Fay Wray played. My guess at date is early 60s

I was very surprised that Springmaid was not in the label resource, but perhaps I was just thinking of the article on Lizzie's website.
Inner tag indicates no other manufacturer - just size and care instructions. Maybe Springmaid made the whole dress and not just the print fabric.
Its a simple princess seamed style.
It still has the original price tag - it sold at Kmart for $5.47.
I was sure it was early 70s - sort of one of those early 70s carryovers but the metal zipper had me wondering if it wasn't more likely late 60s..
(not that everyone had stopped using metal zippers....)

Just in case you wonder what a K Mart tag from back in the day looked like.

I see this designer mentioned online, but I haven't been able to piece together a real bio.
Here's a label, as a lick and a promise, as my mother would say:

From a 70s pant suit (wide leg pants and rhinestone-buttoned shirt, all in heavy cotton lace)

Miss Mouse
British Boutique label of the Seventies started by the late Rae Spencer-Cullen. Rae moved in notorious creative circles with the likes of Duggie
Fields, Zandra Rhodes and the artist Luciana Martinez de la Rosa. She was also involved in Andrew Logan's now legendary Alternative Miss World
contests, creating the hostess's gown in 1978. Miss Mouse clothes were usually cute-with-a-twist, using brightly coloured novelty prints and trims in
very Thirties/Forties style silhouettes. Rae used a signature spotty bow in both her prints and on the later woven label. The distinctive 'with love
and kisses' satin label appears to have been the earliest Miss Mouse label.

From an early 1970s dress
I do have pieces with the woven later label but I haven't got a photo yet, will post at next opportunity!!

This label didn't make the move from the old site - it's from a 1920's celadon rayon crepe dress and jacket ensemble

From a 1960's red velvet with folkloric trim ball gown

From a 1970's velour robe

From a 1970's crepe de chine print dress

From an 1980's wool challis collage dress

From 1980's gold metallic animal print lamb suede trousers

From a 1990's mercerized cotton print dress

From a 1980's party dress (we have this label; this is just a replacement image if you want it )

Not sure if you want this - late 50s, early 60s Comtesse Alligator (Kelly-like) Bag.
Let me know if you do and if you would like a bio - there's info on their website and I could dig for more.
