 C. 1880s Ladies Riding Boots from Montreal, Canada. These were girl's riding boots who rode in a reversible sidesaddle. Riding on just the nearside was thought to cause a girl to grow a crooked spine so girls were taught to ride in reversible sidesaddles so the spine would stay straight. These boots have wear on the outsides of both boots which shows that the original wearer rode on an offside and nearside sidesaddle. Size 4. The feet of the riding boots were original patent leather, the tops are cut in the Hessian style.
