REID, ROSE MARIE Print E-mail

ROSE MARIE REID

Canadian-born American swimwear designer, business woman, and Mormon missionary, Rose Marie Reid made her first bathing suit in 1937. In 1950 she patented a swimsuit with photopermeable fabric allowing whole body tanning. Her daughter Carol Reid Burr designed for her as well, adding the "hourglass" suit to the line in the 1950s. Their suits were quite structured at that time, including boning and zippers.

In the late 1950s/early 1960s, Emilio Pucci did fabric designs for the Rose Marie Reid label. The company is still in business producing swimwear under the Rose Marie Reid label.
