PURITAN DRESS COMPANY
The Putitan Dress Company was formed in 1909 by the Rosen family. In the 1950s and 60s, they made licensed copies of European designers, such as Fabiani. Starting in 1951, Gloria Swanson was associated with their Forever Young line.
In 1965, company president Carl Rosen and employee Paul Young started their Youthquake line in an effort to attract younger buyers. This led to the founding of Paraphernalia, a boutique for the young and mod.
In 1977, Purtian approached Calvin Klein with a plan to license jeans under his name. Five years later, Klein bought the company.
