MCCANN, GERALD Print E-mail

GERALD MCCANN

(1931-) Gerald McCann was one of the youthful London designers of the late 1950s and the 1960s. He often worked with Liberty fabrics and in denim. He trained at the Royal College of Art and joined the atelier of couturier Harry B. Popper. In 1963 he opened his own boutique in Raphael and Leonard's House of Beauty in London, and also had a wholesale business supplying the Woolands 21 shop.

McCann's fashions were imported to the US in the 1960s as part of America's fascination with all things British. His clothes were marketed in the US by Junior Aire and Helen Whiting, and in Britian they were sold in Mary Quant's Bazaar. McCann went on to help found the Top Shop stores in Britain.
