WORKERS FOR FREEDOM
Richard Nott (1947) and Graham Fraser ( 1948) formed Workers for Freedom in 1985. Richard had been an assistant designer to Valentino. He and Graham were working at Liberty of London when they decided to organize Worker's for Freedom. When asked about the name VFG member Claire Sheaffer was told that they selected it because they (the workers) were working for some free time.
The label became known for its innovative fabrics, such as one made from paper yarn, and for their use of embroideries on both men and women's clothing. Since 1999 Anthony Cuthbertson has been the designer.
Thanks to Claire Sheaffer for providing information for this entry.
