HARRODS
Harrods was begun in 1849 by Charles Henry Harrod as a small grocery. Through the 19th century, the store grew and departments were added - furniture, clothing and jewelry. By 1902, Harrods was the largest store in London, and the famous Brompton Road store front had started construction.
The store's reputation for high quality goods and excellent customer service made it one of the most prestigous shopping venues in London. At the same time, the store continued to grow until it occupied the entire block on which it stood.
Harrods was acquired by Mohamed Al Fayed in 1985. Today, Harrods remains as one of the most famous department stores in the world. It is still known for quality merchandise, and most of the world's best designers' clothing is sold at Harrods.
