JEAN DESSES
(1904-1970) Jean Dessès began his design career at Mme. Jane in Paris in 1925. He worked there as a designer until 1937 when he started his own couture house. Dessès was Greek, and his designs were influenced by ancient Greek design, with flowing and draped chiffon being a favorite. He began a ready-to-wear line in 1949, and starting in 1951 he designed a line for the American company Raymodes. Valentino was an assistant at Dessès 1950 – 1955.
Dessès closed the couture line in 1960, and his ready-to-wear line in 1965. He continued to work as a freelance designer until his death in 1970.
