THE TOGGERY
The Toggery was a shop was owned by Mike Cohen, and was in Mersey Square, Stockport, UK. Mike Cohen was the son of a tailor from Ashton-under-Lyne, and he offered both ready-to-wear and bespoke menswear. It became an essential source of 'way out' fashions for 1960s pop groups, mostly from Liverpool and Manchester, and Mike Cohen ended up managing The Hollies since all the local bands used his shop as a cool hang out. Graham Nash of the Hollies actually worked there for a while. Apparently, even 'out of town' luminaries such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones spent money in the Toggery. And there was even a band that took its name from the shop: The Toggery Five, managed by Mike Cohen, as you might expect.
