SPRINGMAID

Springmaid is primarily a producer of bed linens, but over the years they have made fabrics and garments.  The original company was Fort Mill Manufacturing, founded in 1887 in Fort Mill, South Carolina by Samuel Elliott White.  In 1914, the company was absorbed into Lancaster Mills, which was owned by the Springs family.  The company became known as Springs Mills in 1946, and the Springmaid line was introduced.

During the late 1940s, owner Elliott White Springs launched what was for the time, a very risque advertising campaign, based upon pin-up girls and sexy puns.  The pin-up ads were made into fabric, and clothing was made from it on a very limited basis.  Some of the clothing was made by swimsuit maker Cole of California.

Usually, a Springmaid tag means that the fabric - not the garment - was made by Springs.  Today the company is still in business, under the name Springs Global.
