J.Crew was founded in 1983 as a catalog clothing business, offering clothing for both men and women. In 1989 they started their first brick and mortar store at the South Street Seaport in New York City. Today there are more than 200 J.Crew stores.
The J.Crew look is all American classic. They carry men's and woman's clothing, accessories, shoes and even wedding and special occasion items. A children's line, Crewcuts, was added in 2006. 2006 annual sales of 953 million dollars from catalog, website and stores make them a major player in the fashion industry.
