A quality model house originally based at 36 Great Portland Street W1, 'London Town' promoted its dresses as 'Made in Mayfair', the traditional center of prestige tailoring in London. Through the 50s, 'London Town' produced highly sculptural evening gowns in heavy satins, brocades and velvets. Their elaborately structured models frequently use extra features such as padded paniers, boning and stiff draping. Their day dresses were designed with an eye to current trends and feminine styling. Dress designs were altered for younger customers under the 'Miss London' label.
As with most traditional houses, individual designers were hardly ever credited on the garment labels. But in the late 1960s, 'Angela at London Town' labels adorned some elegantly simple gowns. In 1967, dresses credited to both London Town and 'Angela' at London Town were featured (alongside a wardrobe by Louis Feraud and Rembrandt) in a TV espionage series; this was probably an attempt to emulate the successful alliance of fashion and drama achieved by 'The Avengers'. The label's visibility seems to fade after c.1970.
