ULI RICHTER

(b. 1926)  Uli Richter is a German designer and couturier of the second half of the 20th century.  He was trained as a chemist, and became interested in textiles.  In 1945 he escaped from the East German city of Potsdam and went to work for the House of Horn, a leading West Berlin store. He ultimately became the chief designer for Horn.

He established his own firm, Uli Richter Modelle in 1959.  He made custom clothing, often for Germany's leading ladies, and also had ready-to-wear lines.  Uli Richter closed his couture business in 1982.
